Championships

September - November 7

It’s time for Championships - Election Day! With Election Day coming up, let’s make sure we 're ready to perform our best and plan what we'll do with our NCAA mandated day off (for more info on this, see this NCAA Compliance Guide). We encourage you to use the months of September and October to make sure you are ready to vote and plan an All Vote No Play Day event for Election Day. However, feel free to complete these trainings in any way that feels meaningful for you and aligns with your schedule - we know how busy you are!

September Training

ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge is a one-stop-shop for preparing to vote. This month, as you’re returning back to campus, make sure each person on your team is registered to vote, and make sure each athlete checks the rules in the state they are voting in so they don’t miss any important deadlines.

October Training

Election Day is coming up and all NCAA teams have the day off from practice or play due to All Vote No Play legislation. Don’t waste all the hard work you have put in already - plan an All Vote No Play Day event with your team - try the guide below to start, and join our Engaged Athlete Network for supprot from The Team!

  • Make a Plan to Vote

    • Every state has different voter ID laws. VoteRiders provides detailed voter ID assistance so that every American can cast a ballot that counts.  Check out their state by state map, their guide for first time voters, or direct chat line to help players have what they need in time to vote.

    • Head to Activote's website, or download their app, to keep track of your upcoming elections, create your own political matric, look up a sample ballot, and more!

    • Curious about what’s on the ballot or the local candidates running in your area? Check out My Vote Project or My Vote Ballotpedia to see when there’s a vote happening in your community. Find out who is running in your elections and what they stand for. Bring it up in your team to find out how to engage with candidates or causes you care about.

    • We understand it can be very difficult to understand who and what you are voting for in local elections. Click here to read Every Vote Counts’ easy-to-follow guide to “Demystifying Down-Ballot Elections.”
  • Plan Election Day Activities

    • Ask if your team can do an Instagram takeover for your Athletic Department on All Vote No Play Day (Election Day). Use the hashtag #allvotenoplay and consider turning into a cross-team competition!

    • Have players sign up to work the local polls. Poll workers get paid for their time and it's a great way to gain an appreciation for what it takes to ensure that everyone can exercise their fundamental right to vote. Find the poll worker application in your county here.

    • Athlete voices are some of the most influential on campus.  Feel Good Action harnesses the power of micro-influencers on social media to turn Viewers into Voters. Contact them to help you create a powerful social media campaign using your voice to inspire impact and action!

    • Make in person voting a team activity! Start off with a team breakfast or gathering and then go to the polls to make your voice heard!.

    • Pizza to the Polls provides pizza to long voting lines, and will also provide pizza to your All Vote No Play Day Events. Email us at info@theteam.org to set up free pizza for your event!

    • Invite a faculty member to a team lunch on November 8th and ask them to present on a topic related to voting or civic engagement (e.g., voting rights, gerrymandering, Jim Crow laws, or the electoral college).

    • Visit a school on All Vote No Play day. It could be one you already have a relationship with or a new school. Help your athletes work with the school administrators and teachers to figure out the best way to leverage their civic influence and impact on the students.
