All Vote No Play Recognized By National Coalition for Nonpartisan Student Voter Engagement

All Vote No Play awarded the 2022 SLSV Award for Leading Through Nonpartisanship

Young and college student voters showed up in force in 2022, which saw one of the highest youth voter turnout rates ever in a midterm election, according to Tufts University’s Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE). The Students Learn Students Vote (SLSV) Coalition, a nonpartisan network of more than 400 national, state, and local organizations dedicated to growing the student vote, gathered today to recognize 11 exemplary organizations for their extraordinary, nonpartisan efforts to make voting easier, more accessible, and more equitable for college students in their communities and throughout the US, including All Vote No Play.

The awards, given to leaders at the national, state, local and college campus levels, were announced at the closing ceremony of the SLSV Coalition’s annual Post-Election Gathering on December 8, a three-day event which featured speaking appearances by US Assistant Secretary for Postsecondary Education Dr. Nasser H. Paydar and White House Office of Public Engagement Senior Advisor Hannah Bristol.

All Vote No Play received the 2022 SLSV Award for exemplifying the SLSV Guiding Principle of “Leading Through Nonpartisanship'' for their work directly engaging with thousands of college athletes and coaches in 2022. AVNP organized numerous events throughout this Election Cycle, including a civic engagement online event with leaders such as Stephen Curry and Dr. Condoleezza Rice, where over 2,000 student athletes joined and hundreds more watched with their teams through civic tailgating parties. Through an innovative design process, AVNP built free, nonpartisan, easy to use resources distributed to thousands of student athletes and coaches, including a new video library to spark civic conversations among teams. This year, All Vote No Play created unique and meaningful partnerships, working to bridge the gap between the civic and athletic worlds on college campuses.

“All Vote No Play is focused on helping student athletes and coaches think of themselves as ‘teammates for democracy,’ building skills and mindsets that help them become engaged citizens and informed voters for life.” Coach Joe Kennedy, All Vote No Play Executive Director.

“Our approach at All Vote No Play focused on a simple question: ‘What would make it easy for student athletes to take the first step?’ Every resource, program, and relationship is aimed to reduce the noise and friction of this moment, and focus instead on foundational moves to support democracy and ignite civic agency.” - Lisa Kay Solomon, All Vote No Play Senior Advisor & Co-Founder

“Being an engaged athlete is acknowledging our value and purpose outside of our sport, and using our voices to help affect real change in today’s world. As athletes, we have a unique platform where our outreach spans wide, therefore it is important we take advantage of that.” - Charlee Arthur, Brown Women’s Basketball

“I want to encourage other athletes to be engaged citizens so that our voices aren’t limited to how we perform in our sport. Civic engagement through voting will ensure that this generation gets a say in the issues that matter to us today and in shaping the future that we will inherit.” - Austin Lewis, Holy Cross Men’s Basketball

We’re proud to count them as partners, along with hundreds more organizations doing the work every day to help college students make their voices heard in our democracy.”

ALL VOTE NO PLAY engages and empowers student athletes to become great teammates and citizens by developing lifelong civic habits. Working directly with athletes, coaches, and administrators, they provide athletics-focused nonpartisan resources aimed to make civic engagement joyful and easy, build stronger teams, and reinforce commitment to community. As the leader in civic engagement and college athletics, AVNP envisions a future where all student athletes are informed and active citizens and all coaches and athletic departments establish civic engagement as a priority.
